Gjorgi Ulisev, born in 1952 in Stojakovo near Gevgelija, is a distinguished graduate in Music Art with a focus on theory teaching from the University of Skopje. His post-graduation initiative led to the establishment of a primary music school in Gevgelija, approved by the council in 1978, where he served as the director of the 'Vaso Karajanov' primary musical school until 2000.
A trailblazer in Gevgelija's musical landscape, Gjorgi initiated numerous musical endeavors, notably organizing numerous classical music concerts. At the school, he taught music theory, choir, orchestra, and solfège, guiding his students to acclaim in State competitions for solfège.
In 1984, he founded the 'Musical Youth for Gevgelija,' fostering fruitful collaborations between the local music school and 'Musical Youth for Macedonia.' His commitment to music education led to key roles on various boards, including the Association of Music and Ballet Pedagogues in Macedonia, serving as its president in 2000.
The crowning achievement of his dedication came in the form of the 'Musical Moments' festival, inaugurated in 1999, showcasing two concert cycles—'Gevgelija Spring' and 'Gevgelija Musical Autumn.' Over 200 concerts featuring renowned musicians from Macedonia and abroad, alongside budding talents from Gevgelija, were organized under this banner.
His efforts extended beyond local boundaries with the establishment of the inaugural international competition for young musicians, 'Ohrid Pearls,' in 2002, which later became a proud member of EMCY in 2005. EMCY's primary goal, to promote young musical talents in Europe through competitions, concerts, seminars, and master classes, found a vital ally in Gjorgi's initiatives.
Gjorgi Ulisev's collaboration with the Apollonia Foundation stems from a shared commitment to enriching Gevgelija's cultural and musical life. Through the organization of concerts featuring experienced domestic and foreign artists, the Foundation significantly enhances cultural vibrancy and contributes to the educational elevation of the youth in Gevgelija. His gratitude extends to the Foundation for embracing their shared initiative and facilitating these transformative musical projects.
